Some dentists offer in-office sedation. You don't necessarily go to sleep but the meds you are given can sometimes relax you enough that you allow yourself to go to sleep. Varies from taking a Rx (Valium, etc.) before the appt or a "cocktail" of meds at the appt. Check around, but make sure they are licensed to distribute meds in their office.

Best trick I can think of is daydream A lot of times dentists are poking inside your mouth and such so best thing I find is to start daydreaming about anything you wish , helps keep your mind off things

1. Ask friends/relatives for the name of a nice dentist. 2. Ring the dentist and see if they have nitrous oxide (laughing gas) available. If so, make your first appointment for ONLY a check-up AND a trial of the gas. 3. Consider premedication with diazepam (Valium) of about 5-10mg. You should have someone drive you to and from the dentist. 4. Consider either psychological help for your fear, or maybe hypnosis.
