Although Portuguese National Health Service is one of the best in the world (rank in 9 th place!!!!) in dental health care Portugal looks like USA where you only can get health services if you pay a lot!! While you can get the best health treatment, almost for free, in dental health the story is very different. Why is that? because of the dentists lobby for ex, the dental insurances are very bad (only a maximum of 300 € in dental benefits p/year. when you reach more than those 300 € you have to pay the rest., without any discount: max price rate table!) There are some treatments, like implants (1.000 € p/implant!!!) that some people, instead of doing that in Portugal, go to Brasil or Cuba and they pay like only 10% of the total cost they would pay in Portugal, with the trip and hotel included! So, my advise is: do that treatment in UK!!!

I have a friend who was living in Portugal, but returned to England when she was pregnant, as medical costs in that country are too high to be supportable. But if you have your nhs EU card, you may be able to get some discount - whether it covers dental treatment I don't know.

i went to a dentist in alvor a few years ago, and had a filling, it cost me about 400euro, with 2 visits! plus the dentist could only speak broken english and i could only speak a little Portuguese! my advice is to get it done in the uk...by the sounds of it, it would cost an arm and a leg to get it done in the algarve!

I hope you have booked that in a private clinic, i'm warning you, public health service in PT is cheaper, but it totally sucks. Better pay for a decent service. you may have to spend between 60 to 70 euros for each time you go there...

Best comestic dentistry procedure for me?
Sounds like the best option would be to have a full mouth reconstruction where they raise your bite and crown your entire teeth so that they’re bigger and gaps are closed.
